Eastgate 2009-2010 Volunteer Programs

Below are the descriptions of all our wonderful programs. Many which are made possible only with the funding and volunteer support of our exceptional Eastgate Parents!

Assemblies

Plans PTA sponsored assemblies for the student body. Seeks grants to assist with funding assemblies.


Art Docent/Art Imagination
Contact: Diana Chinea- dianachinea@hotmail.com

Parent volunteers from each classroom coordinate monthly art projects or present information about various art methods and artists. This art enhancement is done in the classroom with teacher input.


Chess Club

Adult supervised chess games are provided as a lunchtime recess option in one of the classrooms.


Construction Club
Contact: {OPEN}

This is an adult supervised indoor activity provided during lunch recess. Children can build with Legos and K’Nex. Typically offered once a week from November through Spring.


Family Fun Night

An evening event held in the late spring with a barbeque dinner, free family games and activities for all.


Ice Cream Social

The first family social event of the year! This event takes place on the first Friday of the first week of school. This is a great chance to meet those involved in the Eastgate PTA and allow families/students to get to know one another.


Pacific Northwest Ballet 4th Grade Residency

PNB opens their stage to our school and several others for special performances from 4th grade students at each school. A specific theme is given to each school and weeks of practice with the PNB choreographer occurs prior to the big event. This residency creates a unique opportunity to foster the performance arts and creative abilities of all our students. It’s amazing!


Reflections

A state PTA sponsored contest which promotes creativity in the arts through literature, photography, visual arts, dance, film/video, theater and music. The purpose is to provide an opportunity for students to use their creative talents by expressing themselves through their own original works.

Science Fair

This is an annual event that allows students to test and prove scientific methods and create projects that will demonstrate and display their findings.


Skate King Nights

The kids love it! There are two of these scheduled within the school year. These allow families and students to social and have some evening fun.


Talent Show

This event is held annually and designed to encourage students to share their creativity in the arts through, music, dance and theatrics.


Visiting Instructor PTA Program (VIP2)

Provides students and teachers with additional support and acceleration in the areas of reading, writing and math from certified teacher(s). This program is funded through a PTA grant.


Walk-About Program

Coordinates volunteers to provide more adult presence on the playground.


Young Authors Day

Schedule visiting author(s), coordinate pre-sale and day-of book sales. Coordinate student book writing activities with teachers, organize volunteers and student groups for Young Authors Day.
